  • What's happened to my Chinese Cabbage?

What's happened to my Chinese Cabbage & what should I do?...........I have around another dozen that have also flowered. I enclosed the seed packet from which they came. Any advice as usual would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies............I'll take on board the summer sowings but what do I do with these?........are they worth lifting & cooking or freezing or are they only fit for the compost heap?............Thanks

the outer leaves will be ok to eat but cooked in a stir fry. I was told to sow most of the stuff like pak choi, kai laan and chinese cabbage after the longest day.

Bolting means it has started to flower early, before forming a useful veg, Dark Crow.

Look on the real seeds web site. They have a useful guide for sowing oriental type veg.

I thought this year I was going to get pak choi that looked like the pictures in the seed catalogues. All was going great until the recent hot weather then it all bolted. Tried some steamed with the meal last night and it was tough and stringy so I'll be giving the rest to my neighbour for his chooks.

I tried some cooked in butter but was not impressed, it reminded me of spinach which I'm not a lover of anyway..........never mind, I'll get a bed back & theirs always next month.......

I've got the exact same chinese cabbage planted too. It's only got the first 2 leaves at the moment, I'll let you know how it gets on.
