  • Stupid Question of the day

    What (if any) is the difference between a pumpkin and a squash? Has it anything to do with their keeping qualities?
    Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

      Maybe there is more room in a pumpkin?

          Don't worry about "stupid". I had to ask someone if there was a difference between sultanas and raisins the other day.

                  BigMally - there are some good answers here What's the difference between a raisin and a sultana? | Notes and Queries | guardian.co.uk
                  (I found this when doing a quick google search to see if I was right so I didn't say something stupid.)

                  I especially like the nostril test and £1.50/kg.

                  Raisin = dried grape.
                  Sultana = dried grape of a certain variety.

                  Both start as white grapes. Currants start as black grapes.

                      BigShot, this was my favourite:

                      •Sultanas are shifty and not to be trusted like a lamb's leg in a badger's nest, raisins are a man's fruit, stern and honest like a cheese magnum.

                        Is a cheese magnum, a vile flavoured ice cream lolly?
                        "Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"

                        Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

                            Pumpkin and squash are generic terms. If you want to be specific, you could refer to Summer Squash eg. courgettes, (cucurbita pepo); Winter Squash( eg cucurbita maxima, C pepo, C Moschata). Pumpkins are in this group and are often grown for size or Halloween, rather than taste. There are also Butternuts (cucurbita Moschata).
