How much time do you spend on this hobby? Is it addictive for you?
However garden is now looking good.....................house is a tip mind
Same here, but if I wasn't working I would probably be out there 24/7! As to the house Fi, somethings got to give and it's not likely to be the garden, let's be honest
not quite enough land to be sufficient in veg but a decent sized plot and takes 1-3 hours a day (weekends are variable with the children and their activities!)... more than a hobby for me now BUT i do it because I enjoy it rather than because I have to (though the benefits of hmg veg when dh was redundant and now on a much lower wage was/is a lifesaver!!)...
house has gone to pot... garden and sewing has taken over my life!! lol!
that said... I am still learning having gone from container growing veg for the last 15 years to open ground for veg and container growing fruit so a lot of reading too
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Is that not what's termed a 'Busmans holiday'?

Hobby is the right word - why else would you spend a fortune for little return??<grin>
Not enough time right now - gotta work - but it's still great fun at the weekends (my greenhouse is up!!!)
S
It varies on time spent, in the spring/summer a few hours each weekend, less the rest of the year. I love being out in the 'sun' (if it stays out for long enough) and fresh air.
Its addictive when harvesting time comes, I've harvested my broad beans but I end up pulling up shallots etc as well just to see if they are ready. Then theres a few gaps so in go the next seeds. Its a complete cycle but I love it.
I took over an overgrown plot in May last year so I missed a huge chunk of the planting season last year. Throughout the autumn and winter I spent a couple of hours on a Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting) to clear and get the plot sorted.
Even with the longer hours meaning I can potter up to the plot in the evening for an hour or so a couple of times in the week, I last week decided to dedicate a weeks worth of annual leave to blitzing all the jobs I needed to do to get bang up to date. So despite nearly 40 hours up there last week I still have some stuff to do although the plot is three quarters operational compared to what it was when I took it on.
This year not enough. I have spent the last couple of years completely re doing my garden and the first year the first two beds were cleared and built and we had some stuff growing last year third bed done and one side of the flower area and pathways done but this year as its taken so long for the good weather to arrive, mid May before we had anything decent whereas the last two April has been great so am way behind and life seems to be taking over so I am praying for nice weather Wed, thurs fri and Sat as I am off, and need to clear the next bit so I can grass seed. Maybe next year I can have a year where I can concentrate on the veg and not have another gardening project on the go as well.
Have to keep reminding myself it will all come together eventually!!
