I am thinking of growing my caulis under enviromesh but i have read that some caulis need to be pollinated is this right? and will enviromesh stop it being pollinated ? any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Mike
As far as I know, you eat the cauli's befrore the flowering stage so unless you are wanting to grow cauli's for seed for the following year, there shouldn't be a problem!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Cauliflowers and broccoli - the bits you eat are the immature flower buds so they don't need pollinating. If you leave them in the ground past picking stage the "curds" we eat will develop long stalks and yellow flowers. These, if pollinated will set seeds for future crops.
Enviromesh sounds a good idea to me, I've thought about it too - especially after last year when my cabbage crops were decimated by caterpillars and whitefly.
