Almost all my tomatoes are now in tubs outside, so in the blowaways (plastic greenhouse for the uninitiated) at the moment I have only chillies and some basil. Any suggestions please? I did quite like the idea of trying aubergines, but the plants at Wilkos are about 2" high and near to death. Is it too late to start them off from seed?

Aww thanks Fi! I was beginning to think I had been sent to Binley's! I've some flower seeds I might put in there - aubretia and evening primrose for next Spring, but on the veggie front it's a bit of a quandry as most things can be sown outside now - I think I might fill it with Basil!Granny on the Game in Sheffield

My blowaway is completely empty now. My chillies and aubergines are outside - just wondering whether they would do better in the greenhouse. I could take a shelf out for extra height but the aubergines are quite big now and in big pots so it would be quite a squeeze.

Can you not grow the toms in the blowaway FF?........I believe they will grow better & have a reduced chance of blight.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

I have garlics [don't tell them on the other thread, but I harvested all mine this weekend - shhhhh]....and onions drying out.
I'd keep some tomatoes in it if you can, as it will protect against blight.
Peppers are good to grow in them as well.

Morning Zaz - hope you're feeling better this morning. That's a brilliant idea, I'll be harvesting my onions and garlic soon, thanks very much!
Hey TK, should I use the coke to water the tomatoes?Last edited by Florence Fennel; 14-06-2010, 08:00 AM.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Ha!..I've not heard them called 'blowaways' before- but what an apt name!!!
I too have chillies and basil in one of mine and greenhouse toms crammed into the other!
The chillies will go outside once my OH has dug a bed in the field!!!!( yup- we're a bit behind there folks!!!)...oh - and a second one for the courgettes
I usually put mine away for the summer cos I get fed up with all the watering they need as they warm upso much..
(Ah - but- doesn't the smell of the warm plastic and the sound of the zip remind you of camping hols????)- bliss!"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
