Oops have I made a boo boo ?

Hi all. I was given a few comfrey plants recently so just after I planted them I gave them a bit of a hair cut. I bunged the offcuts in a bucket and drowned them with water. Then I went for a little wander and found a patch of nettles, gave them a haircut and bunged em in too. So have I either..made a fab brew for all my plants, fruiting, flowering and leaf...OR made a boo boo and will have to start again using seperate buckets ?

Nah- you've just made a 'general feed'

Why not make up 2 more buckets as you'd originally intended- one with nettles and one with comfrey??

That I may well do. If I was to hang a net bag of horse poo in water, what could I feed that to ?
Also Ive heard that comfrey is really invasive, is it ? Ive got a big garden but after years of attacking brambles, ivy, blackthorn, lemon balm and mint I'm a little reluctant to bung it in the ground.

Depends on the type of comfrey- if it was wild originally then it'll self seed.

I'm not so bothered about that to be honest- you can always weed it out when they are small plants- or glyphosate if it proves stubborn!

I have one smelly brew of each on the go................cor, it don't half pong!

My OH blamed the pong on the chickens next door , till he lifted the cover on the container.

no idea - but let us know how oyu get on with it. .i just let mine rot down and then spread it on the raised beds

I think the resulting liquid makes a good feed . My grandad used to hang a bag of soot in his water butt. Not many chimbleys around these days tho'

I hope the horse poo is a good idea, I've got half a barrel of it filled with water to use as feed.

And as for stinky comfrey/nettles, I watched the cat scarper the length of the garden after it went to investigate what it was earlier, that was very funny

Comfrey is more nutritious than horse poo, which is better used as a bulky soil improver.

If you don't cover the bucket, it'll attract flies.

Bocking 14 is the non-invasive (sterile) comfrey. You can only propagate it by division/root cuttings, not from seed. There are squillions of threads about it if you have a rootle through the old threads. I got mine on eBay and have since divided it into at least 40 plants.

Thanks for all the help. I have a veritable liquid feast rotting for my plants now and have bought some Bocking 14 comfrey off ebay. I think I will chuck out the other stuff just in case it spreads.
