Some weeks back I was fortunate enough to be given some Lancashire Lad peas by a very kind grape. I just wanted to say that I have a wonderful display of purple flowers & am really looking forward to trying them. Thanks Flummery

I just happened to take these of Flum's Lancs Lad last week [saved from some she sent me last year and grown on].

Even the plain white flowers of peas are in my opinion beautiful but I was particularly taken with the flowers on my yellow podded mange tout up the plot, my mum even has some growing up a wigwam in her garden where she normally has sweet peas.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I love pea flowers. I find Lancashire Lad, unless you are keen on mushy peas (which I am!) are really good eaten whole at mangetout size. They aren't a true mangetout as they have some fibre in the pods, but when they're young they are lovely. Good raw with a salad, when of course, they keep the purple.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Love the colour of the flowers.
Bah! it costs £20 to join the HSL and you only get 6 types of seeds. Humbug"Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"
Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

One of my Lancashire Lad crosses has the gorgeous bicoloured flower but has green pods with sweet shelling peas in. I'm growing that line on!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

When my peas were in flower a couple of weeks ago there were loads of cracking white flowers. In the middle of that lot one stem grew to about 5' and had dark maroon flowers . The variety is Early Onward. Is this a genetic throwback and if I save these pods, dry them would they be worth planting next year.

Yes. Try the peas in the new pods first though. Often older varietied are a bit melay or even bitter when the peas are mature. If you like it though, grow it on. It might still show some variability in future years but just select for qualities you like.
Good luck.
By the way, what colour were the pods?Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
