  • Soft rot in swedes

    Hi,

I think one of my swede has soft rot. The leaves were looking a bit sad so looked at the crown and it is all soft the growing tip came out and I then scooped out all the rotten bit.... (and dried it out with kitchen towel lol!) and exposed the crown to the sun. Do you think this will stop it? Or should I cut my loses and pull now?

    Thanks in advance.

Picture of before I cleaned out the crown...

your photo is massive, any chance you could reduce it a bit?

You have massive foliage too: are they in a shady area? Are you feeding them a lot?

How are the pics now? I tried to twice them last night but for some reason it did not work correctly. If they are still oversized on other peoples browsers I will remove them .

In answer to your question they are in full sun but shade themselves with their leaves (they are probably a bit closer than optimum to). I have not fed them at all but they were put into new raised beds which were filled with a mix of garden centre bagged topsoil and manure mixed into the poor soil underneath which is predominatly clay and Flint.

Any suggestions? Thanks for the comment.
