  • Runt courgette plant!

    Hullo!

This is my first attempt trying to grow anything and i'd like some advice.

I have a courgette plant that is very small in comparison to others that were sown at the same time (picture below). Is it worth continuing to put effort into this smaller plant or should i discard it?

    Thanks

The small on on the right is quite dark, which shows it has not been over watered. I think it will catch up. Just make sure it has plenty water on hot days, as it looks a bit dry.

Will you be leaving them in pots!

My cucumbers were just as different and now the runt is much bigger with more fruit! Just give it love and attention

Oh dear. I must confess to having given slightly less love to the runt... I shall tend it more attentively now that i know it may yet flourish

Tomatoking: i had intended to keep them in buckets (they're the orange ones from B&Q, 12L capacity) is this sufficiently large?

Well, they do tend to take over when in the soil, and not need too much care. If you have no choice, then you will have to watch the watering. I am sure you will still get a fair crop.
I am also sure someone on here has grown in pots so they might pop up with some advice.

            So up I pop!!!

Yes, I've grown courgette in the same buckets with reasonable success. Last year I put two spare plants in buckets and shoved them out of the way in different spots in the garden and they both produced fruit.

I didn't get loads of fruit, but my soil grown plants didn't give me much more last year either!!
The proof of the growing is in the eating.

I had a courgette in one of those plastic storage containers last year. I think we got in the region of 20 courgettes from it. I stuck a cut off plastic bottle to help with the watering.
