  • Tomato sos!

    Hello peeps
My toms were all doing really well in the green placcy poly until I noticed the following today

The Tigrella has leaves that are curled under at the edges but only at the top of the plant. The edges are a little darkened

There are 2 sungold next to each other on one side of the tigrella, these have discoloured lower leaves, almost as if patches have been coloured in with a lead pencil. It is only the very bottom leaves.

I tend to have the poly door and window open all the time as last yaer we had terrible problems with botritus. Is it blight? There is no discolouration on the stems?

it isn't blight. That said,I have no idea what it is.
don't worry about the tigerella, mine have done that, and I'm not panicking yet. Mind you, they're away from my prying eyes in the polytunnel, so I can't panic over them

Tomato plants often have "curly" leaves, specially if they're growing fast which your look as if they are doing. Don't worry. As to the black patches, I have no idea what is causing them but it doesn't look like blight. You can snap the lower leaves off if you wish - this will also improve the air circulation round the plants. The easiest way to do this is to bend the leaf stem up and then down, close to the main stem. They usually then snap off easily.

          Thanks all for your reassurance!
We had big probs last yae with blight, botritus and had a very small crop. Determined this yeat to get to grips wth tom growing!
I'll go and snap off the effected leaves on the sungolds, really odd, they do look like my boys have coloured them in with lead pencil!
Will keep an eye on the tigrella, its one of my faves and we only have the one plant!

          Thankyou

Nothing to do with tomatoes but this reminded me of an incident a few months ago. I work in customer service in a big supermarket and one day a customer bought back some orange juice as her older son said it tasted of washing up liquid. Some days later she came back with her younger son in tow. 'Go on' she said, 'tell the lady what you did!' 'I'm everso sorry but I played a trick on my brother and put washing up liquid in his juice!'
It was so hard not to laugh
