Dandelion btw, has the most different nutrients in it, more than comfrey and nettles. Plantain, Coltsfoot and Silverweed have the next best different nutrients.

How long do you soak the nettles/comfrey before you use it, and how much do you dilute it. {if you know what i mean}
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Bramble,
leave it for a good few weeks at least - the longer you leave it, the more the leaves and stems break down - making it easier to pour, and more concentrated. I leave mine for a month, and tend to have a few barrels going at a time. I use the big 5 gallon detergent barrels as you can screw the lid on and keep the whiffs in.
I think dilution tends to be around 10:1, but just stick an inch or two in the bottom of a watering can and top it up. The resultant liquid has a pleasing green hue... like stagnant pond water.

I'm trying bindweed fertiliser this year. I read somewhere that the roots are full of nutrients. As I have rather a lot of bindweed trying to take over my plot I thought I'd try to make a fertiliser from it. It has to have some use surely! Bruised it a bit, shoved it in a big plastic barrel to which I'd fixed a tap, added water and I'm waiting. The weed is rotting down and so far no smell even though the barrel is open to catch rainwater (although I've kept the lid handy just in case it starts to pong).

I use bindweed and couch grass, this year I had loads of ground elder roots and used that. I wish there was some easy way of working out what nutrients it had in it"Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"

So,what the dilution ratio should be?I watered chillies straight from comfrey pong water-I assumed it was ok as the pong was still weak-about 2 weeks old.It gave chillies quite a kick,all fruit have swelled noticeably.
BTW,I made some dandelion pong this morning.Just in case comfrey runs outLast edited by coreopsis; 21-06-2010, 07:21 PM.
