  • Newbie question (tomatoes)

i bought a couple of sungold and a shirley plant from b&q and one of the sungolds has a flower but its only 6 inches tall.. should i let it fruit or wait till its bigger?

also im guessing theyre both indeterminate?

Leave it to it. I think Sungold is a bush so you don;t need to pinch it out.
What size pot is it in.

Let it flower, they will grow very fast and put on lots of leaf in time. The main thing with bought toms is to pot them into bigger containers so that the roots can spread and support the growing plant.

I usually plant three toms to a grow bag. And between them I insert an upturned litre milk container with the bottom cut off. Two 5inch plastic pots would be as good.
You can then water them and get most in the pots.

          Hope this helps.

Also I think shirley is a standard and needs pinching out.
I suspect it's not an outdoors one like Sungold.

Sungold is a vine/cordon type. It should have side-shoots pinched out. It's also happy in the greenhouse or outside. They do flower quite early, so no worries there

Sungold is most definitely not a bush tomato.

Surfy surfy .... so it is !

I always leave mine alone and they "bush" out as they wish.
Still might try pinching a couple next year.

Regardless, they are the best ever tomato, just like sweets.
