one word of warning, or sentence really, be careful when taking big sideshoots off,I killed a tigerella after taking one off because the main stem snapped. Not all is lost, I stuck two of the biggest in the ground,so hopefully, they'll replace it

With very large ones always use a knife, cut as low as you can to the joint.

So am I right in thinking I should end up with one main trunk with only leaves & trusses........No other branches at all.

                  Totally Mally.

But unfortunately you have taken too many leaves off, so yours might end up looking like twiggy.

                    Yes, yes, yes!

                    But only on cordon tomatoes

And be careful when you take out the top sideshoot, on some toms it can be a bit awkward, ie you're not always sure whether it's a sideshoot or the main growing point, I find it better to wait a day or two sometimes to see how they look then.

                      yup.

keepan eye out too, some varieties will make a new shoot from a flower truss, some of the plum tomatoes, and some heirloom ones.

Ferline are bu**ers for that too and loads of huge leaves on flower trusses sometimes.
