I think you're calling the leaf branches "branches" and we're calling them "leaves"

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

I have small branches with just leaves on which I am calling leaves & I have other branches which are growing similar to the main trunk which I am calling a branch.

They are all shoots Mally, the ones that come from the very bottom are called suckers.
It is just that you have left them so long that they look nearly like the main trunk.

Well Mally, I have had my colouring pens out! The shoots are marked in red, and the main stems in green.
The suckers have to be cut right at the bottom and the shoots where they grow out of between the stem and the leaf

Although do check what sort of tomato you have before doing this as if it's a bush type you don't do this at all

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks everyone especially TK for the pic, it was a great help. I have been out with the knife and amputated them. Although it is too late now, a few of the long shoots had started to flower but I was either brave or stupid & cut them off.

In the long term it will be of benefit Mally, just like the new budget will be for the UK.
But who ever believed a politician.

Thanks for this! Just found a very big armpit on my Tigrella! Flowering too. Didnt know what to do with it as thought it was too big to cut off. Will grab a sharp knife, cut it off and plant it.

                      Thankyou!

Just thought I would post an update & say thanks for the advice. I am really pleased with the outcome & would also like to say thanks to everyone regarding potting up armpits which I would have normally thrown away (2nd pic)

Shame I dont take my own adive because my greenhouse looks like ajungle and I've squashed far too many plants in there
In my defence, it was promted by someone saying that beefsteaks seem to produce more as a bush than a cordon, so I had to try it....
