Last year, which was my first tattie growing year, I just kept all the seed spuds in a tray in the little greenhouse (it was the safest place or OH would have chucked them in the bin) and I planted them every couple of weeks as I was ready to - this seemed to work okay for me. Probably wrong by every book you read though! I think I would suggest keeping them in the light to stop the shoots getting too long and weak.

Yet another chitting question.
I cleared out my cupboard in utility last week and found two trays of last years seed potatoes in the trays chitting, just as I left them but not planted them. I have a new bed to rotivate and felt I could just pop them and in and see if anything happens what do you think is that a good idea or should I chuck them.Bec

Hello Mart, you're poatoes look as if they are chitting just fine to me. It can take 6 weeks for potatoes to chit.
I think chitting is a big debate - whether it makes any differnce or not. I chit mine because psychologically it helps me to see something happening. Commercial growers don't do it. Whose right ?
But if you want to chit, put the potatoes in a cool, light place.
If you don't, then keep them in a cold (frost free) dark place. But they still might do it anyway.
At the end of the day, just plant your potatoes. You might get a few more here or there depending on method, or get them a week or two earlier. But you will get potatoes without losing sleep over it. Hope you get a great crop.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
