I have taken over a smallholding and it has one polytunnel full of self-sown poppies (papaver somniferum). I use a lot of poppy seeds in cooking so does anyone know if these are safe to eat once ripe and dry.

Is that all sorts of poppies? I've got the small, yellow flowering one spreading all over my garden. Like a weed. I mgiht feel quite differently about it if I could harvest the seeds.
I've tried to google poppies to see if I can identify what we have. It looks like meconopsis cambrica (welsh poppy).
Any idea, anyone?
Thanks
Caro
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day
According to Alys Fowler, you can eat Opium, somniferum, corn poppy, rhoea, arctic poppy ,nudicale, and all their resulting cultivars. Pretty much everything then!
