Vine courgettes: how long/tall should they be allowed to grow?

My courgettes have turned out to be vine varieties, which i began to train up wigwams last week. They've now reached the top (1m) of their wigwams - how tall should they be allowed to grow before nipping out the growing tip? So far, all have only male flowers.

I really don't think 1 metre will be tall enough for them.

Aye, and they're (all six) growing so vigorously now, with huge leaves... In retrospect it wouldn't have been too terrible if one or two had succumbed to some pest!

I always grow the bush variety's because I don't have room for the trialling/climbing one's, so I'l be interested to find out what everyone else's answers are.

They're better left to trail over the ground than trying to train them up a 1 metre wigwam
