Hi folks,a while ago I dug over some ground previously used as a strawberry bed & planted 2 rows of Red Duke of York potatoes. This morning I dug up half a dozen plants only to find that one of them had white tubers not red. I know there were no potatoes in the soil because as I said it has been a strawberry bed. I was late digging the ground over so never put any compost in the ground, just granules of potato fertilizer. Is it possible that my red variety has reverted back to white. The haulms, tuber size & shape are the same as the reds which makes me wonder. I am tempted to keep the little marbles to plant out next year to see what happens. Would it work.

I don't know if my earlies are lagging behind but they are no where near lifting, a lot of them have yet to flower. I plan on lifting around the middle to end of July.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Flighty, there's always a possibility of a genetic mutation and there's always the possibility that the wrong seed potato ended up in your pack. I sowed some boltardy beetroot and one plant ended up striped like choggia. Could be either explanation.
Mally, when did you plant your earlies? I've been eating mine since 27th May and have had over 30lbs. Admittedly some were started in the greenhouse in containers but I've lifted quite a few from the plot as well.
