Little brown holes in my peas

Some of my pea pods have a number of peas that have a brown/black hole. I presume it's a pest so just wondering which one would do that.

Open up the pea and see if there's a wee maggot in there. Had them last year. Unpleasant to say the least. Not this year though. This year it was weevil and my unfathomable inability to grow peas

No maggots as I was checking to make sure.

I'll google pictures and check. I can't take photos at the moment as no camera and no phone camera!

That's my biggest fear about peas - I'd hate to open one up to be greeted by a maggot eye balling me. Yuck.

That said I did find a podded pea-pod on the ground - which was a bit alarming.. Mrs said it wasn't her!

It will be pea maggot: you won't always see the culprit unless they've grown bigger. I had a great crop this year. For the first time I had more edible peas than maggots.

I've been picking and podding the peas, taking care when opening a pod.
You will see a pea or two, has a small hole in them and on the outside of the pea (or on the inside of the pod) there will be a tiny maggot, they grow very quickly, so if you have more mature peas in a pod, you will have a large maggot and if you have small sweet peas, you will have a teeny tiny maggot you can hardly see.
Needless to say, I don't eat maggot or eaten pea, although in a survival situ, I would, as neither would be bad for you.
I do eat the other peas in the pod.

if you see light blemishes on the pod, thats where they get in [I think], then when you open them up, if there's a fluffy substance on the inside, they're in there.

I've not had many so far. But I haven't harvested my Carruthers Purple Podded. They are absolute beggars for Carruthers'!

The eggs are laid in the flower - not all maggoty peas have tell-tale damage to the pod. If only they did

I have picked loads today and each one had a tiny maggot in it. Not sure whether to just get rid of the remaining crop. Have also found some in my mange tout. Is it best just to get rid of the rest of the crop???

You only need to ditch the pea with the maggot in it: the rest of the pod is OK

does it depend on when they're sown for what part is attacked?
Only asking because I did one lot early, and all the damage so far is limited to the pods.
I wanted to sow another lot for later in the year, but I'm not sure when the moth is active, or when to sow to expect another crop before it's too cold.
I am a pea virgin for the most part, I've only grown them two years running and only sown them early.
