  • Dying Swiss Chard - Going Brown

I have my swiss chard bright lights edging my the front of my raised beds as I think they are really pretty with the lovely coloured stems.
Problem is, they have all gone brown! The leaves are just looking very dead. I have some in one bed in front of my brassicas and some in another in front of my french beans. The ones that are squashed in another non-rasied bed behind a wall, are huge (albeit slug munched).
The raised beds are on a south facing slope with no shade. Could if be too much sun? Or wind? Or not enough water?
The ones behind the wall are protected by a south facing wall, so are rather shaded.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Natalie

Sounds like they got too hot and too dry, tbh.
Give them extra water - they should come back. It is difficult to kill them!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Mine have wilted & flopped in the heat/drought, but not turned brown. They aren't shaded and have endured a month without rain (I don't water them).

Yours could be terminal, but try cutting off all the foliage & watering the root well, see if it picks up

I had a couple of plant like that and I cut them down and watered them regularly and they started growing again. It's worth a try.

Normally sun and lack of water just makes them flop over for a while, they have long tap roots and usually manage to survive.

I wonder if something is attacking the roots, the only way you are going to find out, is dig one up and have a look.

Yes, could be that. I've just lost a couple of spud plants to red ants: they'd made their nest in the largest spuds

I will have a look at them when I'm next out there.
A good watering hasn't helped, they still look half dead.
Thanks everyone for help and advice.
