Are they distant relatives?......I know they look similar (in my eyes anyway), they both have armpit shoots but now my tatties think there toms............ Do I leave them or cut them off?.....

You can grow new plants from those just like tomatoes; some of us did it last year and I think Flum might have done it again this year.
It's also how they breed new varieties.
Don't pop them in your salad though, as they are poisonous.
[Toms and Pots are also related to Deadly Nightshade....]
So am I right in thinking they are new seed potatoes.

You can find stuff about them on my blog - if you can be bothered scrolling back. Not too far back is a bit about one of the potatoes I selected and have grown on this year. I called it Purple Heart. It was from a fruit from a Salad Blue. You need to grow the seeds from inside the fruit, (early next year) and pot up a few - or grow them in the ground in a shallow trench so you can earth them up. These plants will give you a few tubers so you can taste them and see what you've got. Then, save a few in a bag in the fridge salad drawer till spring and off you go with seed potatoes from your own True Potato Seed. I have a second selection which is very dark - that's called Amethyst and there's a half row at my allotment.
I tried growing some a couple of years ago from Desiree potatoes real seed. The resultant potatoes were planted again but were inferior to their original Desiree strain......so I ditched them!
