For my back garden i used these people.

Slate: Decorative Aggregates Store for Gravel, Aggregate, Slate & Pebbles

They were fast and reasonably priced. It was also a lot cheaper than buying small individual bags.

Our original raised beds were constructed four years ago now by my partner, Dave, who then covered between them with weed membrane. On top of this we put wood chippings which we usually top up every year - as they tend to deteriorate through the season with walking on them. If any weeds do grow its easy to pull them out as they tend to be on top of the weed membrane.

I put cardboard down first to supress the weeds and then cover with bark. Works well for me so far.

I put down bark chips this year. You do get weeds through it though, as others have said. I didn't put down a membrane first... didn't think of that at the time.

I am beginning to wonder whether the membrane I put under mine was such a good idea?
The weeds root into and get a hold of the membrane making it very hard to pull them out without lifting the membrane.
I used to use woodchips alone and it was an easy matter to pull or hoe weeds from it!
