Pick 'em small and regularly, that's the secret. I throw them on the heap when they're the size that you buy in the shops. Mind you, by the end of it there's nobody I know who isn't sick of courgettes!
I just like growing lots of different types and with 3 plots, I can do. After all, they only produce for two to three months, and we'll have enough courgette cakes in the freezer to last until next year!

Picked three off the one in the polytunnel today and another one from outside. Plenty more on the go too . All the rain this week seems to have really swelled them.

I've got 7 plants, although I've just pulled one up as it annoyed me
Three days crop made into a huge pot of soup today, 24 courgettes....... hang on, that's not even 3 days crop as we ate some fresh the previous 2 days..........
I am starting to groan a little every day when I walk into the garden and see another courgette ready to be picked, when I swear it was only an inch yesterday.
I haven't watered or fed my plants for weeks, but they seem to be speeding up production, not slowing down!Last edited by womble; 22-07-2010, 11:06 PM."Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"
Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

I plamted my 3 plants in tubs beside the house on the north facing side. I used home-made compost from the bin which was still a bit sweaty but they are producing really well. I think getting them going early, keeping them watered and using a really rich medium are key. Maybe the horse muck isn't what they want
