  • Letting the cucumber vine grow freely

Is there any harm in letting the main stem of cucumbers continue growing? One has reached the top of its support and i'm thinking about training it horizontally against the wall of the house and finally onto the roof of the shed...

You can if you wish - do you have any fruit forming yet? My understanding is that cucumbers usually fruit on the sideshoots growing off the main stem so you do need to consider whether it is worth getting all the extra length of main stem. Will the vine have the time and resources to set and produce fruit.

I never cut back any parts of my cucumber and always get more fruits than I can manage so I wouldn't worry at all.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I take off a lot of the tips as they have no support when they get too long. I cant get to a lot of my plants to train them anymore but i always seem to get loads and all at the same time. They seem to have a break and then start all over again. I just wish you could do more with them.
I wonder if you can put them in a smoothie with melon and bananas, it wouldn't taste horrible as they dont have much taste.
