  • Who/what has had my leeks?

First it was the runners, then the celery and now the leeks....
I spent hours dibbing, trimming and popping my leeks in , even when the ants decided to swarm I carried on . I was proud of those leeks . They weren't the biggest leeks in the world but I'd grown them and nurtured them and now something has eaten them ............. to say I'm not happy about it is a slight understatement. Any ideas. ?
They were surrounded by a chicken wire fence with a net over the top.

    How eaten?

    As in caterpillars, or mammal?

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Norty Mr Z tut tut....... no OH has now learnt to ask what's a weed and what's not before he touches anything
We've now sprinkled little blue sweeties for the slugs ( stable door and bolting horses springs to mind)

There may be hope! I'm no expert but I was moaning on another thread that my leeks got munched every year by some moth maggot thing. TS told me to cut them off an inch below soil and they'd come again - a bit late and probably a bit smaller but better than losing the lot - it's got to be worth a try if there's anything left!

What are you growing them in a lighted tunnel for?

Never really had problems growing leeks.........hope you find the culprit!

                    Figure of speech dear Snadge.........

I've never grown them before , thought that as I'd had a fantastic crop of garlic, shallots and onions that the leeks would be the same. Obviously not. Mind you I can't seem to grow spring onions either .........
