You can shell them out and eat the peas inside but if they are true mangetout (i.e. lacking the fibrous layer in the pod) you should be able to cook them even when they are very swollen. Try one in a pan of boiling water for a few minutes. If it's not fibrous and nasty, you're on!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

My golden sweet ones are fine when at proper pea size so long as they've not dried out. Don't look as nice but taste good
