Chilli hotness

I have a Super Fresno (i think) chilli pepper plant doing really well, lots of big green chillis on. I took one to taste, although there was a definate chilli taste the hotness was quite mild.
First year growing chillis and I am wondering if they get hotter as they ripen and does this type change colour as they ripen.
Also got Cayenne peppers doing really well any advice on these would be greatly appreciated.

Not familar with Super Fresno, but it is still early in the growing seaon to pick them. Is it green or has it turned red?

I like to keep mine on the dry side from now to September, when I pick the crop.

Chillies will be at their hotest when fully ripe but that colour will vary from type to type and is further complicated by the conditions making a difference too - never fully worked out the russian roulette that is chilli tasting

Your super fresno should turn red, and they will be considerably hotter.

I couldn't help myself and had to have a taste, guess I'll just have to be patient and wait for them to ripen. I have been descibed as having an asbestos mouth when it comes to spicy food and I devoured the whole chilli including seeds, taste was excellent but the hotness only mild, should be a great chilli though when ripe. Just hope my Cayenne peppers are as good as I have loads of them, doe anyone know if they will change colour? they are a light green at the moment.

Depending on the variety of Cayenne they will change colour, red is probably the most popular although I understand there are also yellow and purple varieties and possibly others. If you grew them from seed did the seed packet not have a picture on it?
