sun or shade

is anyone else having problems with the typical summer?,we have now had over 4 weeks of what seems to be constant cloud,broken by spells of rain, we get a few minutes sun a day and my melons in the greenhouse,which were doing so well ,have not set a single fruit in the last month,it has been so damp that on friday,i got wet in the greenhouse,all doors and vents open,but no breeze,water dripping everywhere,and having to wear a jumper to keep warm,so we can tell summer is here,the rain has got warmer!!!!,but not that warm,going on hols soon,will have to wear shades if and when the sun comes out as we seem to be in dark ages at the moment

been overcast/raining for the past 2/3 weeks.. yesterday was sunny all day and I noticed an explosion in growth... was quite shocking going out after work and thinking 'am I in the right garden?'

it happens every year near enough as soon as the children are on their holidays the weather break down the snails and slugs are having a rare old time eating my cabbage and beans and my onions are infested with onion fly. one bright light i pulled some of my early tatties yesterday a monster crop of charlotte.i find it funny how you can grow melons in kilwinning i struggle with ripening tomatoes here

and the weather men only seem bothered about the london weather,paying lipservice to the rest of us,they say that there will be a heatwave ,and like an afterthought,"oh and rain inscotland/wales".london has its uses though,it keeps all the self-important moguls and polititions in one place,benefiting the rest of us

to littleexperience,where you can grow toms in the g/house,you can do melons,just need a childs paintbrush to pollinate them,and a halfway decent summer(thats the hard part,last year was so wet,the plums only tasted of water),i think we are now victims of global wetting,although the boffins wont admit that, until london floods,it will always be global warming.....

Sorry to say, but here in London I've been praying for rain! All the park lawns are brown straw and I've had to soak my garden every night. My tomatoes are not red yet but there's quite a few and they're grown outside as I don't have a greenhouse. Today, thankfully, we had a shower. Hurrah!

i really struggle with toms BUFFS the thing is i stay 1000ft asl in the galloway hills and its like the abbys up here 350 days of the year its either cloudy or rain and a 3c change in temps from AYR which is only 15 miles from me one old timer told me dont grow maincrop tatties here you will never get a decent harvest and he was right. the growing season up here is so short.it was -19c here during the winter

In my part of London it's been cloudy (but bright) with the odd long spell of direct sun and frequent short showers. It's terribly warm, humid, very muggy. The aubergine outside has been growing crazily, but everything else seems to have slowed down compared with the gains made at the beginning of the month when it was sunny, hot and drier.

My earlies have suffered so badly I might as well just have eaten the seed potatoes rather than planting them and grown prickly pear instead

I'm just outside London and the weather is far from ideal here too - warm, but not actually sunny very often, and next to no rain for the last 6 weeks. Nothing is growing, it's all just sitting there!

About 3 and a half weeks ago I purchased some shading for my greenhouse ... since then its been miserable and overcast ..... therefore I feel the current climatic depression is all my fault and for that I sincerely apologise.
