  • Eeeeek help!

    Hey folks

sorry to be a pain, but I've just got a bit worried about my crop of tatties! I am growing Edzel Blues, Pentland Lustre, Marfona, Maris Piper, Kestrel and Red Duke of York. I have just noticed marks appearing on the foliage in the form of small brown spots, which on the underside of the leaves appears to have a 'shiny' type look, it isn't wet or mushy, it remains really dry.

Can anyone shed some light on what this is and what I should do? To my untrained eye, the various potato infection websites are quite involved, I can't seem to narrow it down!

    Thank you!

It looks like what happens to potato plants once they've been outside in the weather for a bit. I wouldn't worry about it.

That said given the rain up here recently I think we're doing pretty well to have any potatoes still standing. I keep expecting to come home and find them blighted out of existence.

Thanks for your replies. It does kind of look like the early blight - which I hope its not! Although I have dug some tubers and they are fine - damn tasty too!

Frustrating isn't it- when you really don't know whether to chop off the top growth

Even I ( not that I know what I'm talking about!!!) would
remove the spotted bits and wait and see what happens.
I'd certainly be checking daily though!
Our former allotment would occasionally be visited only at weekends- and we'd be utterly shocked what could go wrong in 5 days!!!!
