Check your garlic

If you have it hanging up to dry that is. I put mine in the greenhouse this year because it was too damp in the shed [tumble drier, not mine], and when I checked it today, it had little holes drilled into the bulbs and maggots happily chomping away.
I'd just about consoled myself that although it wasn't as good a harvest as last years, there were still a few fair sized bulbs in there. Well, not any more.

Tonight I shall mostly be pickling odd garlic cloves that I managed to save.

Yuck! The maggots of what? Just ordinary flies?

googling reveals it's probably an onion maggot, so just in case you don't know, they definitely fly above 5 foot.

Runs out immediately to check onions/garlic hanging in shed!

I'd better check mine, they're in a tray in the blowaway. I've plaited some already that are hanging in my daughter's kitchen, hope the others are safe!

They were more likely to have been there developing when you harvested them.
