I was given a packet of charity seeds by a friend, they didn't say what they were so I just threw them in one of my tubs and waited for a surprise. This is what came up can anyone tell me what it is, is it dill? can I eat it?

It doesn't look like dill to me.
my dill is about 6ft high and more feathery leaves. The flower head is similar- but not the same.
Dill has a very obvious smell when you run the leaves through your hands too.
Nope- don't eat it"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

it smells like Dill... and yes it tastes like dill, hope it is dill I ate it now, it was lovely in the fish pie we had for tea. What a lovely surprise now all I have to do is work out how to get the seeds when ready so I can have more next year.

It did indeed- but you know what? - my flower heads are more plate like than a pompom (ish) like that one!
I wonder if different varieties have slightly different shaped flower heads????
I know I'm further south- but I collected my seeds a couple of weeks ago!Last edited by Nicos; 02-08-2010, 09:07 PM."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Thankyou to everyone who left a message for me it was great and yes I'm still here it is definately dill, it was sown very late and as I said I did nothing the dill and the cosmos came from the same seed packet (red cross charity seeds) next year I think I might plan it a little better, the dill has a beautiful flower but not much leaf so after reading a bit more about it will make more of an effort with it, I think it would look beautiful grown amongst my PSB.
