Marketmore Cucumbers

Have acquired some Marketmore seeds

Says its an outdoor type.... Havent much room to put them other than in the greenhouse. Do "outdoor" varieties grow well in greenhouses?

i have never grown cukes before so am in the dark here, but i THINK there might be some problems with pollination. I've got a packet of marketmore as well so i'll be watching this thread with interest.

I've also got a packet of Masterpiece which is also an outdoor variety.

my garden is anything but sunny and sheltered, so any tips gratefully received.



oh and if anyone wants a few of either, just pm me. there's no way I'll get through this little lot !

As my raised beds weren't ready, last year I grew cukes (probably Marketmore) 3 in a large pot, up a wigwam of bean sticks. They did really well and weren't chomped by pests as much as when I've just let them ramble along the ground. The pot was a quite deep terracotta one - about
1 1/2ft across filled with a base of well rotted manure then part good garden loam, part compost. The loam was only because I'd run low on compost and couldn't be bothered to get more. I didn't bother feeding them at all, but made sure they had plenty of water. Very pleased with results.

I grew marketmore last year with great sucess, I was tight for space and grew them up the fence training them up with string. They did noot take up much space, just a little more than runner beans as I kept tying them up.

Grew very well in shallow soil and 3 plants gave me my friends and neighbours more than we could eat, I think I fed them once!!

Very tasty, thick skin though but no burps

Hi Mike, I grew Marketmore outside in pots last year & they did O.K., not that many fruits & they did have quite tough ,prickly skins but tasted nice. I would think they will be fine inside a greenhouse, don't see why not.

Good timing spotting this, I was about to ask for cucumber advice myself.
Never grown them before and Ive got Tasty Jade which Im going to try in the greenhouse. Has anyone else tried them and any tips?

I have grown Marketmore in the greenhouse with great success. They do even better!

Have grown Marketmore in the greenhouse for the last few years with excellent results. I put one plant to each pot and put chicken wire behind each one to let the tendrils cling on. Had no problems.

Do you just treat them like an indoor cucumber, ie removing the growing tips when they reach the greenhouse roof or after 6 leaves as for outdoor?

Don't know which is better but I allow mine to trail across the roof.

i had 3 extra plants that would not fit in my greenhouse, too many toms and seedlings, so i just put them in the ground at the allotment thinking slugs would get them. guess what, snails ate all my toms and cukes and 19 sprout seedlings (my son, bless him, decided to keep his "pet" snails in the greenhouse!) the 3 i planted outside did fantastic, i had to give away loads. very tasty!!
the snails no longer exist......
