Anyone had any good results from growing spuds in sacks? D'you get good crops from them?

There are lots of threads covering growing spuds in bags, buckets or whatever container you fancy - personally, I used morrisons flower buckets last year with one spud to a bucket. got a fair crop but possibly harvested too early. Certainly good enough to encourage me to do more the same way this year. I planted over a period of time so that the spuds would be ready in a staggered way (so I thought - not sure if that is right or not though). They were so tasty I am going to do more buckets and hopefully let them mature longer

I gave my excess seed potatoes to my parents last year, and they grew them in old compost bags. They got a superb yield from them and are planing on doing the same this year.

i am going to grow my potatoes for exhibition in bags so that i get less blemished skin and i can look after them a bit more as i'll keep them at home. (i will have the rest up at the plot tho!)
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted

As StG says, loads of grapes, self included, grew tatties in various containers last year. I grew three varietes - Arran Pilot, Foremost and Charlotte in buckets (and my daughter had one seed Charlotte in each half of a halved growbag) All produced a decent crop and as a bonus, they were nice and clean at harvest too !

I have plenty of rotted cow muck. Would potatoes grow in buckets filled with neat muck and nothing else, do you think?

I grew potatoes in buckets last year - beautiful potatoes and good crop. I planted some in buckets in January in the hope of very early crops. They're up ! so very hopeful for early spuds.

One way only to find out - try it! Might be the best spuds ever - chase them out!

Will defo trawl through previous threads too, sounds like patio potatoes are for me. Our new garden isn't as large as the allotment I had, so need to use space saving techniques.

Re: manure and potatoes, courgettes always do v. well on manure heaps, so I guess pots do too, I suppose the main thing is that the manure is well rotted or it'll 'burn' the plants?

Alice, which type of potato did you plant in the buckets this year and how many did you put in?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
