LED growlights?

Hi all

Just wondering whether anyone has any expericence of LED growlights? I like the sound of the lower power consumption, but they do seem to be quite pricey. Can I just use normal blue and red LEDs mounted on a board?! Or would a low energy lightbulb be better?

I have seen chilli growers make their own growlight setup from Xmas lights! I don't think there's a reason why you can't use blue & red LEDS mounted on a board check out info on the forum of Chillies Galore, there's lots of info on there. I use a low energy daylight bulb in a desk lamp to provide my (mainly) early chilli seedlings with extra light - but there's not that many of them.

I would guess that any light source other than green would work.
