They are really close together , as I accidently planted a lot of seeds
when should I thin them out ...?! In a couple of weeks or should I do it now ? ! They are very small though .. also how do I actually thin them out! Or should I just leave them (Do i actually need to thin them out ??!)

Are you on the sauce RST? You already posted a thread about thinning out: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ngs_51074.html

But you don't say where you are growing them (pots or open ground) or how close together they are at the moment

Take a pair of scissors and snip the tops off - that is the easiest way to thin. Do this after your seedlings have started growing their second pair of leaves. Thin out your mustard and rocket to 2 inches or so between plants.

Or you could pull up the unwanted ones, give them a rinse and eat them as an early salad treat.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

you literally pull them up & out. If your fingers are too big & clumsy, just nip off the stems with fingernails

You could just let them grow a bit, then use the thinnings as sandwich filling/salad

The next time you have a sandwich

The seedlings are edible: better to eat them than to just throw them away. Is your mustard the large hot red mustard? If so, it needs to be about 6" away from its nearest neighbour. They last all winter too, good winter salad crop that

Most seedlings start off with a pair of leaves - the seed leaves. Then the second set starts to grow through. The second set of leaves tend to be a different shape to the seed leaves, and are the first 'true' set of leaves for the plant.

It sounds like your rocket has got to this stage.

I thought you said that your garden was all lawn - did the parents relent and let you dig some up?
