  • sprouting onion sets

I bought some red onion sets from B&Q, they advise to plant in march so I stored them in a bag in the greenhouse. Checked on them yesterday and some are sprouting green stems not sure if this is good or bad and what I should do with them now could I plant them up in modules in the greenhouse for a bit before planting out?

Having never grown an onion in my life I would welcome any advice

    best wishes

It seems to be a bit of a problem this year Serenity, especially with it being very mild weather wise.

You certainly can pot them into modules in your greenhouse for planting out later. Unfortunately I dont have enough greenhouse space for onions so mine will be planted in a raised bed this weekend which has the benefit of not being waterlogged or too cold.

      Plant them - they've got 2 choices!

You can plant them in modules if you've got enough room. Otherwise put them in the garden or lottie. If you've got any cloches you could cover them, but they should be OK without.

I planted mine out last week having read somewhere that they like a bit of frost. Or was I dreaming ?
