  • Tomato Problems???

My greenhouse tomatos have started to ripen but many of the fruits seem to have a small dark area on them, for want of better words, its as if someone has pushed a finger against the skin and bruised them from the inside??

Is it at the 'blossom end'?

No, i've looked in Dr. Hessayons book and the closest thing is blossom end rot, but the patches are occuring half way up the side of the fruit.

I think there was a similar thread a few weeks ago...can't remember exactly but consensus was some kind of viral/fungus thingy...

Could you post a picture, that really helps.

          Hi AD.

Look at this link it could be Anthrasnose.

If not use this link which is from my blog to the same site.

It is usually worse with over watering, and some times if not too bad it is just patchy soft spots on the tomatoes.

Just added this one, it must be one of these!

It really looks like BER , as its a hard and shiny black spot, where as a fungal disease is softer, sometimes BER is slightly to the side of the base.
Are there any other signs of disease on the plant, and would you say you could have been under-watering.

I must be honest and say that up until august 7th everything was watered well. on that date I went on holiday and my brother watered everything. I spoke to him mid week and he mentioned about it so I'm guessing under watering isn't the case.

Well the news is not so bad then, do not over water them to bring them back, just make sure they get enough from now, and they will be fine.
I had some the other week when I was away for a while , so it happens to all of us.
