It's only August! Tons of time yet, I think. Mine are all full-size but still green. I convinced myself the other day that some were showing the first signs of a blush on one side, but I think I was imagining it. However, there's four weeks or more to the first frost, and even then they can be picked and ripened on the windowsill with a banana (all bananas are good for, if you ask me), or if it comes to it made into green tomato chutney.

As the others said, it's only August. Hopefully ages till the first frost.

I've got tons of them, from cherries to massive beefsteaks, all still green. I've had the odd few ripe ones though, so they're definately trying

I started a number early this year - especially beefsteaks and those I have bred myself, so I've had ripe ones for a while. However, I usually start getting the very first ripe ones in about the second week in august - in a greenhouse. I don't think anyone should consider green tomato chutney till at least October!

I've had half a dozen Mini Charm but all the rest are sitting looking resolutely green.

Since the beginning of the week the outdoor tomatoes are ripening well - I'm already giving them away! However my greenhouse tomatoes (same varieties) are very slow to ripen this year! What's that about?

i've had 2 cherry toms and one normal tom so far - there's a mini-plum tomato nearly ripe - it's disappointing that i couldn't get ripe tomatoes any earlier this year

Same here. The ones I thought were just beginning to change colour - and I don't think it was my imagination after all (see previous post) - are all outdoor ones, while the greenhouse ones - same four varieties - are still resolutely green. Shouldn't it be the other way round?

My outdoor ones came long before my indoor ones; very odd!

However, mine are all coming thick and fast now...

Got more than I can cope with at the moment! Still got loads of green ones but not panicking about them yet.

Lots of small ones - Ildi and the cherry types including the green toms - coming through nicely. This year all the bought tomato plants are very poor but those I've raised by seed are doing brilliantly, mainly heritage types and loaded with ripening fruits.

Outdoor toms very nearly ready but greenhouse one's still very much green! Can't wait, last year was my first year and I had no idea home grown toms tasted so good!
