  • Two topics - Cucumber and Swedes Help Please.

Hi, A couple of queries you may be able to help me with:

    1. Cucumber.

I have several cucumber plants. One of which has developed mildew like whiteness. I have removed this plant from the others. Why would this have occured? it has not been watered/fed any differently than the other plants.

    2. Swedes.

cabbage white is decimating my greens from the top of my swedes. I am out squishing them all the time. If the battle with the catapillars is lost will i lose the swede? or will it be ok in the ground, or should i dig it up. (my swedes are ready) and i have been eating them. Whats the best way to store them if they need to be dug, as i usually pick them as required.

    Many Thanks

    Lurch

Swedes can be stored in a clamp, or damp sand or in dry used compost!

Powdery mildew on the cucumbers, tends to affect all curcubrits at this time of the year. Can be controlled by spraying with a solution of milk(skimmed) and water at 1:10 ratio. Difficult to control once it has got a hold, remove badly affected leaves and the plant will usually go on for a bit longer. If you are into chemicals and sprays there are producs on the market that may cure the mildew.
Swedes can be left in the ground for now even without tops on.
