leggy plant

What is a leggy plant one of my peppers have really short up the past week and there is an inch between the first set of leaves and the second and the same between the second and third set of leaves, this plant as five sets of leaves but the rest are fairly close.

Have you tried putting it ( them ) outside (under glass ) during the day light hours.
