tomatoes splitting open, why is this?

My 'Purple Ukraine's have all split bady, I assume that 'P.U.' is prone to splitting.

They didn't the year I grew them.

So far, I've had very little splitting with Gardener's Delight, despite being a bit erratic with the watering.
