Nettle Brew

Hi Folks

Over the last 3 weeks i have been making a nettle brew in an old drum
Here are just a few queries I have (never made it before)

1. How long should i leave it before i can use it (now really smelly only stalks remaining all leaves have dissapeared into the green glupe)
2. There is a white crusty scum on the top should this happen
3. What can or can't i use it on at the lottie
4. How much should i use

Hope someone is able to help

1.You are meant to leave it for 4-5weeks.
2.The whity crust means no harm
3.I dont know exactly but its only nettles!!!
4.1 part nettle potion to 20 part water
I dont know about yours but mine STINKS!!!!

I have 2 45gall drums of comfrey tea I just keep topping up with leaves and water. Will have to think about empting out some time but will probably wait till spring when the comfrey starts shooting again. I don't bother diluting mine as it looks like weak tea which is how it should be. I use it for almost every thing when it is growing. Have just given runner beans a good soaking to try and get the seed beans to get to a good size.

I would have thought that now was the wrong time to be feeding even leafy veg nitrogen rich fertiliser? They'll put on lots of soft sappy growth right at the time they need to be hardening up for winter.

I would save it till next spring. Over the winter stick comfrey in it as well and you'll get a more balanced mix of nutrients.

Sorry for the late replies but been away a few days

will use some to water on the compost heap thats a great idea (Never thought of that one )

and will try to find some comfry (when i know what it looks like) to mix in

and yes i was planning on leaving it to use next year and if i can find another drum i may seive it out and put the sludge at the bottom of my pea and bean trenches (I saw that somewhere but not sure where)

It's coming to an end next month, but will re-shoot in the spring. Borage is good too
