First half decent summer we've had over the last 3 years - we got some sunshine and warmth inbetween the wet days and weeks for a change - have had lots of ripe tomatoes this year rather than the odd edible one amongst lots of rotting tomatoes!
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!
I'll be with pies and taff in the pub. Been a great year up here after the cold spring start. Best crops for years. Forty-odd pounds of ripe toms, sixty four cukes, peppers galore and my OH is complaining that she can't get anything in freezer cos it's full of vegetables.
Having said all that my swimming trunks haven't been wet this year but that's more on account of my spindly legs and pot belly and me not wanting to inflict such an awful sight on the rest of humanity.
All in all this year (out of 3 growing) has been my best, loads more toms ripening (a little later though) chillis+peppers ripening earlier??? A freezer full of french beans!! And I actually have a pumpkin plumping up!!
....when its cold enough now that you have had to start putting your domestic heating on, yet you still have loads of green tomatoes trying to ripen outdoors or in the greenhouse
I'll second that, although I am currently indoors freezing as I refuse to put the heating on in September!!
Getting back to the weather then, it's worth noting that at Moor House nature reserve in upper Teesdale the only two months of the year with no recorded snowfall are July and August. Be prepared !!!
spring great, summer was *rap, autumn great,so peppers, chilli and melon in scotland...dead pleased(and surprised)... and no more room in new 20cub ft freezer, any more and we wont be able to shut the lid...
