tomatoes to recommend

Apart from the more popular ones on here [Sungold, Amish Paste, PW's French Black etc] I just felt that I have to recommend these

Amana Orange

I bought a pack of seeds when in Brooklyn Botanical Gardens shop - and couldn't get them to fruit last year [too late sowing I think] but this year we grew them at one of the schools.

I took one home this week to save the seeds and - wow! What a great tomato.

Tasty, fleshy, soft.....absolutely bang on.

I've got some seeds to share in the circle, but if anyone can get hold of any around and about - I'd recommend them.

I'm going to jump in too and reccomend Brads Black Heart

no splitting, consistent fruits, gorgeous flavour. I'll be swapping some seeds too.

I have to say Big Boy produced really well for me this year, and is still continuing to do so.
I will definitely sow this one again next year.

Ferline and Legend - don't get blight till october.

Sungold - like eating sweets

Wladek - tried for the first time this year (HSL), early ripening beef, LOTS of toms even after the surrounding plants got blight the fruits on these stayed unblemished.

Bloody Butcher worked well for me (not as red as I had thought though) and gave a large number of tomatoes starting nice and early, with nice sweet fruit.

Golden Gem have surpassed Sungold this year: bigger, sweeter and no splitting

Floridity was my revelation of the year, fine balanced taste, tonnes of fruit!

I've been very impressed with the Darby Striped I got from HSL this year, they've produced tonnes and look really pretty. Cook well too as well as being nice in a salad.

I have some of what I think are these: Black Plum Tomato Seeds - Lycopersicon esculentum

I was given them by a Grape who had been told they were 'Eva Purple Ball' but the fruits are most definitely not pink, or ball shaped as Eva is supposed to be. The ones in the link look just like mine, and every other purple plum type is described as being potato-leaved which mine aren't.

Anyway, they are a superb tomato; heavy cropping, fairly botrytis resistant (which is a must in my greenhouse) and a really great flavour - rich and not overly sweet. I've grown them for 3 years I think, and are on the 'permanent' list now.

For a plum (cooking) tomato, it has to be Olivade. For a consistently good
beefsteak Mountain Pride.

We also get good results with Brandywine

I've had a really good crop of Mini Charm, and I made a late sowing of vilma to extend the season and it is LOADED with 1" fruits.
