I've read quite a bit about these 'potato fruits' this year, and, for the first time ever, I saw some on my own potato plants. It's the first time I've ever seen them.
Is there something about this summer that encouraged them? Certainly here we've had a better summer (less rain) than for several years.
I removed and disposed of them.My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

The tomato and potato are members of the nightshade family, of which there are some deadly varieties.
The potato produces flowers and fruits, and the tomato produces fruits and tubers on the roots.
My understanding is that the fruits of the potato plant, and the tubers of the tomato are both extremely poisonous.
