When to pick green tomatoes

Hi Guys

I have lots of green tomato's left on my five plants. When do you think i should give up on them ripening to red outside and bring them in to ripen or make green tomato chutney? Also when I bring them in should I bring in as much of the truss/branch as possible or just pick 'em!

I have just resolved to pick the rest of my toms and bring them all indoors - there is quite a bit of blight about and I think it is the last chance to get some produce off the plants. The green ones I picked earlier are gradually turning red in a bowl in the kitchen.

at a guess i would say ... when they are green .... aren't you supposed to put a banana with them to speed up ripening? or was that something else?

My plants are still going fine in the greenhouse, looking at the next 5 days forecast, I have no plans to bring any tomatoes in.

If my plants were outside, it may be different, but I think not atm.

No blight here this year.

Agree that it depends on if they are inside or out, I've cleared my outdoor ones totally now (lost some to blight about a month ago but the others in the same bed have limped on and continued to produce) but will leave the indoor ones for a bit but at the rate they're ripening I'm not expectiing any green ones left.

My roma plant keep dropping its tomatoes when orange tinged, so I bring them in and put them on a sunny windowsill...seems to work, but not if they are really green.

I still have 6 plants outdoors and they are doing fine. There are 3 on a south facing wall, and are going great and giving me a great crop of Sungold and Black Cherry.
The other 3 are on an east facing wall and are ripening, but they are a lot slower.
If there is no blight about I would leave them for another week or two.

All mine got picked today whatever state of readiness as the dreaded blight has just raised it's ugly head even in the poly tunnel. The over ripe banana in a brown bag with toms really does seem to work - I harvested a load from outside last week and those in the bags are ripening a lot quicker than those left on a 'sunny' windowsill.

The are outside but no blight so I think I will leave them for a bit! thanks guys
