im in the middle of watching it on iplayer and had to pause to comment

    i'm loving it!!!!

i've only had the gardening bug for a few months as you will see from my posts but this has confirmed how much fun it can be!!

i will never grow veg for show but my wee scraggy carrot or the competition that im having with the kids to grow the tallest broad bean "beanstalk" has proven that the back garden is the best place for quality time with the kids!!!!!!

    well done the BBC!!!!
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand

Just watched it on iplayer, was at work last night - Thank you womble for the post or I would have missed it. What a good programme I was completely engrossed, but not at all tempted to try, wouldn't have the patience or space, good to see what goes into showing.

Didn't know it was on... don't usually watch GW, but have just found it via Sky on BBC2 NI tomorrow afternoon so set it to record.

            i really enjoyed this too!

I was asking myself the same question about the woman with the potaotes, does she eat any??
Well the man with the celery he just made me laugh with the toothbrush!!

We haven't had much luck with our carrots this year, so we are gonna try them in sand and see if that works any better for us...

Gardener's world should do more programme about things like this as they are more interesting for the gardener

I half-watched it while doing other things. I was dead impressed by the veg, especially the incredibly long parsnips as they were eased out of the ground, but I'm not interested in showing, so would prefer programmes devoted to growing for the table.

Me too; I'd rather 200 medium onions than one large one; although the large ones DO tend to have the old boys on the lottie site muttering under their breath and visiting for a look when I'm not around.

Don't we all just want a programme on TV about growing veg to eat???? What's so hard?

Volcanic rock dust, I'm certain there are discussions on here about it.

I think there must be room for a half hour program once a week just for veg growing, didn't I hear all these new figures, that half the country was growing their own, to some extent?
                  Or something like that.

We need Mr Flowerdew to do a 10 minute program once a week. That would be better than any of the GW efforts.

I really enjoyed it, in particular i loved the bit at the show where Joe was worried about his carrots and the other guy looked over at the competitor next to him and said " look at his it has a hole in it", the poor guy was gutted and just turned his carrots round to hide the hole!! loved it!

I now understand how alot of the top growers get such good results.

Its not that thay are much better, its that they have the space to grow in vast quantities, and so long as they are doing things (almost) as well as others they have such a large amount of crop to select from they are fairly sure to get some good veg

............. forgot to say how surprised I was that slugs and snails had eaten the tops off the onions, didn't think they would have eaten it with the strong flavour.

Yay for that - but I suspect he isn't "TV" enough: though he has the perfect face for radio
