Glad to hear we weren't the only ones to fall asleep, a bottle of wine and (probably) the best fish and chips in Cambridgeshire, if not the UK and well you'd be counting the Zzzzz's too

Further research shows it available in 20kg bags at around £45 incl VAT & delivery. More expensive than the dust in earlier post but it needs around 40-70 gm/m2 - about 1/10th of the above so much cheaper than the dust or tub that Joe used.
It does like very similar to the one Joe was holding, yet it isn't made from rock and Joe said it was made from volcanic rock (unless I dreamt that bit).
But I think it must be nutrimate and Joe got it wrong because Medwyn says he uses it.

The secret ingredient Joe used was Nutrimate. We use it and it is a marvellous product which help anything that grows in your garden. Andrewf you stole my thunder before I could reveal what it was A quick google shopping search finds nutrimate online.

Once you get into showing it is very addictive. I tried growing carrots but they forked. I tried leeks but they died (neglected by me) but luckily my potatoes were ok and I got first and second at a local show I entered.

Some people live for their vegetable but they would probably laugh about people who sit at computers and talk about veg so I can't knock them.

"an organic feed based on 70 million year old mineral deposits" were his actual words I still have it on sky plus. Might try some carrots for my local show next year

            Bit expensive thought innit?

Do I presume that you need the nutrimate on top of fertiliser, and or manure?

So, would you only bother with Nutrimate if you're wanting huge veg, particularly for showing? Or should we all be using it?
                Caro

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day

Well it didn't help Joe win did it!?!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I loved the show. I have been keen to get into showing veg but I have absolutely no idea where the competitions are and how you enter them! Anyone have any suggestions?

I grew some wondefully uniform and clean onions this year, and some ok-ish Sweet Candle carrots which won best carrot on my allotment.

Try looking for local horticultural clubs or the local churches, my local church has a show every year. Try the RHS as lots of garden clubs and the like are affiliated with them. I found my local society through the leisure and social clubs page of the local council.

                        That's a good point

How much do you reckon it cost him to grow each carrot?

but he looks like Whispering Bob Harris and sounds a bit like him too TS, he could host a remake of The Old Grey Whistle Test as well as a programme about growing veg!

It is really a commercial product for large scale nurseries and such like to use.
It has been kept secret by the industry but now the makers have started to sell it to retailers so that the public can use it.

How much do the commercial buyers get it for then? It must be way way cheaper then the smaller amounts we can buy.

It's annoying how we are ripped off sometimes. Or maybe that's just my perception.
