Growing Ginger

Has anyone tried and been successful with growing ginger and if so, can you tell me where you managed to get the seeds from. I've tried a couple of places so far but not been successful.

buy a bit from the supermarket, leave it near a coffee machine if you have one, and when it's sprouted, pop it in a pot with MPC...bob's yer uncle! and just chop bits off as you need it

Having failed to get ginger to sprout a number of times I wonder if it is the coffee machine bit I've been getting wrong!

same here. left a bit by the coffee machine once for no particular reason and it sprouted in no time. tried it 3 times since then and exactly the same has happened each time. if i dont leave it there it doesnt sprout! got to be something in it cos it's happened too often to be co-incidence!

currently have a piece sitting with a 1.5inch sprout....and i didnt even plan to plant that bit!
