  • Battling mould on pumpkin stalk

    Arrrghhh.

Having to carefully wipe mould of the stalk of our largest pumpkin (harvested and in the hall) everyday. Race now to see if we can get it to Halloween before the stalk rots away completely and starts on the pumpkin itself.

What a pain - I noticed 'something' not too healthy on the last of my butternuts that I am ripening in the garden at the moment and they got a good spray of dettol anti-bac this morning. I generally give them a squirt before they go into storage to keep them nice and healthy (read somewhere that people dunk them in a part bleach solution before storing them to kill of anything that will rot them, but think bleaching veg is going a bit too far???). Maybe a squirt of something like that will keep the mould at bay long enough???

Sulpher powder should stop any moulds from growing. Think you can still buy it in the Garden Centres.

I noticed mould on my Iron Bark squash stalk today and wondered if I should do anything about it...sounds like I should.
